Aphrodite Liti (b. 1953) has developed a sculptural practice of rare formal concentration, in which motifs drawn from the natural world are transposed into works of amplified scale, luminosity, and spatial resonance. Presented at the VIMA Art Fair, Leaf (177 × 175 cm) belongs to the same series as Liti’s monumental Leaf (1984), now in the National Gallery collection and on view at the National Glyptotheque in Athens.
Its unexpected enlargement confers monumentality upon an otherwise fragile form, while the mirror-polished surface captures and disperses light, drawing architecture and atmosphere into the work itself.
Liti has exhibited in significant international contexts, including the Alexandria Biennale, Pandora’s Box at the Antikenmuseum Basel, and Material Bonds at MOCA Shanghai, while also presenting work in museum and archaeological settings such as the Archaeological Museums of Poros, Delphi, and Ancient Messene, and the Numismatic Museum in Athens. Her works are held in major public and private collections in Greece and abroad.
