Yiannis Adamakos

Yannis Adamakos (b. 1952) has established a singular position within the ongoing language of abstraction in the 21st century. Over the course of a distinguished career, he has developed a painterly idiom of rare refinement, in which light, atmosphere, and memory are distilled into works of remarkable subtlety and depth.

His canvases unfold as immersive fields of perception, where form lingers at the threshold of dissolution and color operates simultaneously as structure, sensation, and space. In the large-scale paintings, especially, Adamakos creates an all-encompassing atmosphere that extends beyond the image itself, giving the work an architectural presence and a rare capacity to envelop the viewer in light, color, silence, and space.

Adamakos has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Benaki Museum, the Athens Municipal Gallery, Pierides Gallery, and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in New York.

His work is held in institutional collections including the National Gallery, MOMus, and the Bank of Greece.
